James River Oysters are one of the oyster appellations from the Chesapeake Bay region off the Maryland and Virginia coasts. They are found in the brakish waters of the James River near Norfork, Virginia. They are far enough from the sea to have it effect them with a lower salinity. In the days of the Colonies this region thrived with a multitude of oysters. The area’s oyster population is coming back but not like the days of old.
